Legends, Lions, Links and Luxury: Introducing Micato Safaris’ Grand South Africa Golf Safari

Bespoke Safari for Four Includes Golf with Gary Player at his Private Ranch, Custom Golf Clubs and the Best Golfing, Wine Tasting and Game Viewing in South Africa

NEW YORK, NY – Luxury safari outfitter Micato Safaris (http://www.micato.com/) has a sterling reputation for providing its elite clientele with unparalleled personal service and unexpected amenities, anticipating their every need and whim. Now, golfers may experience Micato-style luxury as they tour South Africa’s world-class golf courses, winelands, and game reserves. The Micato Safaris’ Grand South Africa Golf Safari, which includes an overnight at golf legend Gary Player’s private ranch and a round of golf with him on his private course, is truly a golfer’s dream come true.

The journey officially begins in New York City, with a one-night stay at the uber-luxurious Presidential Suite of the Waldorf=Astoria hotel. This evening, Africa native and Micato Safaris owner Dennis Pinto and his wife, Joy Phelan-Pinto, join the guests for a bon-voyage toast and pre-trip briefing.

The next day, two Maybach 62′s arrive at the hotel to whisk guests to their flight to London aboard Virgin Atlantic Airways. In their Upper Class Suite, they’ll enjoy unparalleled service and attention, sip champagne and mingle at the standup onboard bar before settling into their private, fully-flat bed with proper mattress, pillow, duvet and sheets.

Upon arrival in Cape Town, guests are transported by limousine to the Ellerman House Villa and Spa overlooking Bantry Bay, one of the world’s most exclusive private villas and the jewel of Cape Town hotels. During their stay in Cape Town, guests enjoy a round of golf at one of the top courses in South Africa, Erinvale Golf Club, city tours by Mercedes, a helicopter tour of the city, and shopping before being whisked off to South Africa’s famed winelands.

In the winelands, guests relax in five-star luxury at the Grande Provence Estate Owners Cottage, in Franschhoek Valley, the heart of South African wine country. While in the winelands, guests will enjoy an early-morning hot air balloon ride high above the manicured lawns of Pearl Valley Golf Club, followed by a gourmet breakfast at the club and a round of golf. The day winds down with private wine tastings and cellar tours, followed by an evening of fine dining and South African wine at the Grand Provence Estate.

Next, it’s off to Karoo for an unforgettable day and night at the Gary Player Stud Farm, Gary Player’s thoroughbred racehorse breeding operation. Here, guests will be personally hosted by Mr. Player, winner of the Grand Slam and the most successful international golfer of all time.

At Mr. Player’s estate, inarguably one of the most special places on earth, guests will be treated to a round of golf with Mr. Player on his private golf course (he is the designer of more than 250 courses around the globe), horseback riding, game viewing, and a spectacular dinner with the golf legend before retiring to Mr. Player’s luxuriously appointed guest house.

The next day, a private charter takes guests to Plettenberg Bay and surrounds, the heart of the Cape Garden Route. Following a stop in Knysna for a seaside oyster luncheon, guests alight upon Gary-Player-designed Fancourt golf course, where experts will make a study of guests’ golf grips to begin designing a set of custom clubs for each.

That night, guests check in for the first of three nights at Pezula Castle, and entirely private castle built into an oceanfront cliff overlooking Noetzie Beach. The colonial-style property features bedroom terraces overlooking the ocean, a resident chef and butler, gym and pool. For the next three days, guests enjoy canoeing and hiking the lush estate grounds by day, while being lulled to sleep by gentle ocean breezes and the sound of waves lapping the shore at night. If more golf is what guests desire, the Pezula Championship Golf Course is a sweeping spectacle of fairways and greens rolling through the pristine Southern Cape landscape. Also nearby lies the Goose Valley Golf Estate, a magnificent estate featuring a Gary Player-designed 72-par, 18-hole course with breathtaking views of Keurbooms Lagoon, the ocean, and the Tsisikamma Mountains, as well as abundant animal and bird life.

Guests’ final stop, which marks the end of the “golf” safari and the beginning of the equally exciting traditional safari, is Phinda Private Nature Reserve. Here, guests will reside for four nights at Getty House, a sophisticated sole-use villa situated on 3,500 hectares in the west of the Reserve. This very private, intimate lodge over looks an extinct volcano now covered in lush green vegetation and ringed by gently rolling hills. Each day, a knowledgeable safari guide will take guests on game drives where they will experience the Africa of their dreams- sweeping plains where elephants, giraffes, lions, and zebra roam free.

Alas, the trip of a lifetime must end sometime. On day 17, guests board a private charter to Johannesburg, where they bid adieu to glorious South Africa and depart, again on Virgin Atlantic Airways’ Upper Class service.
